Project Overview

Keravan Armas ry is a local cultural association that carries out cultural well-being work by organizing events. The association is part of the nationwide Armas festival celebrating aging. The festival features numerous events across Finland, including those related to visual arts, dance, theater, music, and film.

The structure and visual identity of the website should be designed to serve the target audience. The association plans to generate its content for the site, such as blog posts and press releases, so a good and user-friendly content management system is needed for the website.

The goal of the new website is to increase awareness of the association’s activities, serve the target audience with current news, and engage decision-makers and sponsors in building cultural well-being initiatives.

The primary target audience for the website is active retirees in their third age. Other target groups include professionals in cultural and well-being work, decision-makers, and potential sponsors.

Research and Strategy

The strategic planning of the website began by thoroughly understanding for whom the site is intended and why. We examined the current situation and set clear goals, as well as defined the features and functions that the new site should fulfill.

Three distinct user personas were created for the association, and their user journeys were mapped out. For each persona, we considered how they would access the site and what they would want to find on it.

Next, the functions identified through the user journeys were documented, and a light keyword analysis was conducted along with a preliminary search engine optimization strategy. This formed the basis for designing the site structure.

During the strategic planning, we also mapped out the association’s social media channels, and folder structures were created in the cloud for images, videos, and texts. Project management aspects such as scheduling and communication were also reviewed.

Build

Web design and development

Wireframe mockups, or so-called “low-fidelity” mockups, were created for the pages to outline the elements, sections, and functionalities. Wireframes do not yet include images, colors, or copy; they are stripped-down frameworks for websites that establish the foundation for a good user experience.

After designing the wireframes, a prototype was developed to test the interactive user experience. Based on feedback from the prototype, necessary adjustments were made to the models. Following this, the design of the visual identity for the pages commenced.

The visual design plan for the website included fonts and typography, colors, visual elements, and the brand’s imagery. Based on the plan, layouts or templates for the upcoming pages were created, which were then approved by the client.

The website was built using WordPress software and the Elementor page builder. WordPress is the world’s most popular content management system, and Elementor allows for easy updating of pages and flexible layout design without the need for coding skills.

Continuous development

Aitta Media takes care of the maintenance and security of the association’s website by regularly updating software and plugins, as well as creating backups of the site. We assist the association in publishing website updates and provide WordPress training as needed.

Analytics tools have been installed on the site to track metrics such as website traffic, users, and popular content. We also use a plugin to improve the site’s loading speed by compressing code and unused files, as well as optimizing the compression and distribution of images.

We added the site to Google Search Console, which helps maintain and improve visibility in Google search results. We also consulted the association on the implementation of a Google Business profile to enhance organic visibility.

We assist the association in creating a content plan and maintaining social media channels to ensure regular and effective publishing. Especially on Facebook, as a channel, is crucial for reaching the target audience. Social media efforts aim to guide interested visitors to the website’s content.
